Title: Cognitive Functioning in Adults with Histories of Head Injury, Pain, or Psychological
Trauma (UCCS Study)
Purpose: This study plans to learn more about how a history of stress/trauma, head injury,
and/or chronic pain are related to memory, learning, and attention performance. In addition, we
are interested in learning more about how these events may have shaped your worldviews and
quality of life. The study is being conducted by Dr. Kristin Samuelson at UCCS.
Design: You will be asked to complete a short interview and then several tests assessing your
verbal memory, visual memory, working memory, processing speed, and executive functioning,
which are expected to take approximately 2-2.5 hours. Afterward, we will ask you to fill out
several online assessments assessing your mental health, personality, and quality of life, which
are expected to take approximately 1.5-2 hours.
The entire study will last between 4-4.5 hours.
To participate, you must:
• Be between 18-65 years old
• Be able to read, speak, and comprehend English
• Have been exposed to a traumatic event or a head injury event
• Not have a history of neurological disorders (e.g. seizures, epilepsy)
Compensation: Upon completion of the study, you will receive $60.
