GovCIO is currently hiring for a Cybersecurity Engineer to design, develop, and implement realistic cyber scenarios for use in military campaign simulions and academic training environments the United Stes Air Force Academy (USAFA). This role requires both technical expertise in cybersecurity operions and creivity to transle real-world cyber thres into interactive, scenario-driven learning content. The ideal candide will work closely with military educors, simulion developers, and subject-mter experts to produce immersive, accure, and adaptable cyber training modules th support wargaming, red/blue team exercises, and operional planning in academic and defense-reled environments. This position will be loced in Colorado Springs, CO and will be an onsite position.

Cyber Capability Development

• Develop and implement realistic cybertack and defense capabilities for use in training environments and military exercises.
• Engineer adversary emulion infrastructure, scripted tack workflows, and technical exercise injects.
• Cree custom tooling, automion, and lightweight applicions to support cyber training objectives.
• Prototype and integre new cybersecurity technologies, plforms, and operional concepts into existing range environments.

Scenario Engineering & Exercise Development

• Transle real-world cyber thres, malware behaviors, and offensive techniques into technically accure training scenarios.
• Develop hands-on technical content supporting malware analysis, penetrion testing, network defense, and incident response exercises.
• Build realistic vulnerable environments, tack phs, and operional objectives for student and faculty exercises.
• Support exercise execution through technical integrion, adversary operions, and post-event analysis.

Automion & Technical Integrion

• Develop scripts and automion workflows using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages to support cyber range operions and training activities.
• Integre cybersecurity tools, logging systems, monitoring plforms, and APIs into training environments.
• Assist with development of custom scoring, telemetry, orchestrion, or exercise-control capabilities.

Collaborion & Technical Support

• Work closely with faculty, system administrors, and technical staff to support cybersecurity educion and operional training objectives.
• Provide technical support during exercises and assist with troubleshooting cyber training environments.
• Document technical implementions, exercise procedures, and operional workflows.
• Assist with testing and evaluing emerging cybersecurity tools and technologies for instructional use.

Required Skills and Experience

High School with 6-9 years of experience

• Clearance required: None
• Position requires U.S. Citizenship due to the nure of the role. 
•  equivalent practical experience may be substituted for Associe’s or Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Informion Technology, Engineering, or reled technical field
• 6-9 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity engineering, cyber operions, systems engineering, software development, or reled technical fields.
• Experience working with Windows and Linux systems in lab, enterprise, or cyber training environments.
  Experience developing scripts, automion, or lightweight tooling using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with virtualizion and container technologies such as VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V, Docker, or similar plforms.
• Working knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Familiarity with offensive and defensive cybersecurity concepts including penetrion testing, malware analysis, incident response, network defense, or adversary emulion.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot and integre technical systems, tools, and services within cyber training or operional environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to rapidly prototype or adapt technical solutions to support evolving training requirements.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience supporting cyber ranges, capture-the-flag (CTF) environments, simulion plforms, research labs, or technical training environments.
• Experience developing or integring cybersecurity tooling, telemetry pipelines, scoring systems, or automion workflows.
• Familiarity with frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK, Cyber Kill Chain, or NIST cybersecurity guidance.
• Experience with reverse engineering, malware analysis, exploit development, red teaming, or detection engineering.
• Familiarity with Git, version control workflows, or collaborive software development practices.
• Experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, or network monitoring plforms.
• Knowledge of virtualizion networking, isoled lab design, or segmented training environments.
• Security certificions such as Security+, CySA+, GCIH, GPEN, GCFA, OSCP, or equivalent technical certificions.
• Interest in cybersecurity educion, military operions, wargaming, or adversary simulion environments.
