My name is Matthew, and this is something I wish I didn't have to do.
I have been fighting eviction for a few months now and It's a fight I'm losing. Long story short, my dad, a veteran of the Marine Corps passed away unexpectedly and left me with a home mortgage. I tried desperately to keep it up to date while I searched for room mates, but I failed to keep the mortgage current and it went into foreclosure. I went through probate and became executive of my dad's estate and tried for years to sell the property (worth 600-700k) but also to no avail. My last hope was that whomever purchased the home through foreclosure would be open to renting the property to us, given we've been here six years and the house needs a lot of work. It defaulted to the VA after the bank failed to sell it at auction.
The Veteran Administration are unwilling to rent the property and instead wish to sell it. They are unwilling to even let us rent it for six months to give us time to find a new place. (We only started having the funds to re-locate a month ago). I was assured by the VRM that they would work with me not to put the family of a veteran on the streets, but they have not done so at all.
There are currently five of us. Myself, my elderly mother, aunt, and two cousins. We have several dogs and two cats.
For income a month, we have:
1800 Disability Check
900 Widow's Benefits
1500 Remote Work
My aunt is also getting a 20k lump sum payment for backpay mid August from the Social Security Administration.
I AM BEGGING anyone who could possible offer a place to rent or stay for a few months at a reasonable rate to contact me. We are in the process of getting a home loan to purchase a home outright, but it is a long process. I am desperately trying not to lose my dogs because they are all I have left of my dad and he and I raised them from the time they could fit in my palm. They're labradors.
