Equipment Overview
The subject of this section is a 1987 Caterpillar 225BLC, identified by serial number 3YD0463. This excavator has been maintained and operated with care over the years, reflecting a history of reliability and dedicated upkeep.
Ownership Timeline
I acquired ownership of the Caterpillar 225BLC in 1994 and have been its sole proprietor since then. Over the course of my ownership, the machine has consistently demonstrated dependability in various operations.
Major Restoration and Maintenance
In preparation for a Reservoir restoration project awarded in 2014, the excavator underwent a significant rebuild. Key components and systems were restored or upgraded, including:
• Installation of a Caterpillar remanufactured hydraulic pump
• Rebuilding of the swing drive
• Replacement of the camshaft
• Inspection of cylinders, which still showed hatch marks indicating minimal wear
• Rebuilding of most cylinders
• Replacement of approximately 90% of high-pressure hoses
• Rebuilding and line boring of the bucket linkage
Less than 1000hrs since rebuild
Equipment Condition and Features
The excavator remains very reliable and free from leaks. It is powered by a 4-cylinder Caterpillar 3304 engine, with oil changes performed at 150-hour intervals to ensure optimal performance. The machine is equipped with a 30-inch bucket and includes a nearly new 48-inch bucket, providing versatility for different project requirements.
Reason for Sale
I am offering this well-maintained machine for sale due to my retirement from the industry. The Caterpillar 225BLC presents an excellent opportunity for continued use, given its history of thorough care and maintenance.
