For Sale: 1979 Chevrolet Luv 4x4 Mikado – 1 owner 47k miles!!

Time Capsule! Excellent condition – very little wear considering it's age. That is due to the fact it is a 1 owner truck, with only 47,000 miles. It was owned by an Air Force officer that only drove it in the winters when he needed 4wd to get to the base. It has very little rust, (especially for these models) because Colorado is a fairly dry state and didn't salt the roads. Even the bed is totally straight – doesn't look like anything was really hauled in it!

It is the Mikado package, which includes the rear slider window, AM/FM radio (not just AM!), striped seats, 3 spoke steering wheel, and this one has the optional skid plate package as well. This one is so original, it still has the IKI Japanese headlights!

LUV stands for Light Utility Vehicle, and these small trucks from the 70s and 80s are absolutely wonderful to use day to day. Small, good fuel economy (23 mpg city, 32mpg highway), and can still haul lots of stuff for work or play. It has a 1.8L 4 cylinder engine and a 4 speed manual transmission, and a real 4wd 2-speed transfercase with low range. This truck is a joy to drive. Zippy and small so easy to steer and park. It feels like a low mileage truck – the shocks, ball joints, bushings, tie rods etc all feel great when driving. No rattles or shimmies or shudders. Everything works – the radio, horn, lights, blower fan, etc.

Of course, being a 1979, it does have some wear – small hail dents that aren't very visible unless you look closely, the stickers have faded, the bed, while not dented from cargo, does have some paint fading and the dash has a couple large cracks under the cover. The tires have lots of tread, but are older so should be replaced before any real road trips. The rear cab mounts on the frame do have a little rust – very common and these really aren't too bad. It has a small exhaust leak so it can pop out the exhaust on overrun, but should be an easy fix.

These are getting harder and harder to find in good condition because so many were used hard and put away wet. Finding a low mile, 1 owner, 4x4 Mikado package one? This might be the only one left you find!!
