"Dear Santa" Collectible Plate

This incredible collectible plate, entitled DEAR SANTA, is by renowned artist Sandra Kuck.

First issue in the Victorian Christmas series, this plate measures 9" in diameter. Rimmed in 22K gold, this porcelain hand numbered plate features a young blond-haired girl dressed in blue dress trimmed in white lace carefully leaning over a table composing a letter to Santa. In the background is a decorated Christmas tree and several wrapped gifts.

This was made by Reco for Bradford Exchange Bradex. 84-R60-047.1

This pot is a huge Tarahumara Indian cooking pot or vat hand-formed from native clay and fired in wood pits. You can still see some of the original white painted design under the patina from being used over a fire. We were told this vat was used to cook liquor. This vat is about 16” tall, not including the metal stand, and about 16” wide at the widest point.

This pot is in mint condition with no breaks, chips, or repairs. It has always been displayed out of direct sun in our guest room.

This particular piece of pottery is made in Jemez Pueblo, NM by MP. It is signed on the bottom. It measures about 6” high and 5” across at the widest point. This pot is in mint condition with no breaks, chips, or repairs. It has always been displayed out of direct sun and behind glass.

This pot is black, red, and light blue on white clay with an intricate design on both sides of the pot.

Believed to have originated in South America, the wedding vase has been a part of Pueblo life for centuries. The graceful spouts represent two separate lives. The bridge at the top part of the vessel unites these separate lives together as one. The future husband's parents provide the wedding vase in Indian ceremonies. This happens two weeks before marriage and is a very festive time. Gifts and advice are given to the bride and groom as they prepare to establish their new home together. On their wedding day, this vase is filled with Indian holy water and given to the bride. She drinks from one side of the vessel while the groom partakes from the opposite side. This ceremony is equivalent to the exchanging of wedding bands. The couple will cherish their wedding vase throughout their married life.

The pottery used in Native American ceremony would be quite different from that presented here which is meant to be enjoyed as a work of art. Actual ceremonial pottery is sacred and not sold to the public but received or given as gifts among tribal families. The old utility jars used to contain water were fired in such a way as to harden the clay against water. Others were sealed with tree pitch, animal/plant oils or beeswax.

The Texas Sesquicentennial Press in Austin commissioned three different maps to promote awareness of and public interest in Texas’ celebration of 150 years of independence. I purchased this map directly from the Press. I have the original purchase receipt, the mounting receipt, the frame receipt, the original book that came with the map, and the sales flyer for the map.

In the original book, the description for this map is as follows.

Four outstanding individuals made unique and special contributions to the creation of this stunning visual image of Sesquicentennial Texas – 1986. Richard Hubbard designed and drew the physiographic base sheet upon which the rest of the illustration’s data is featured. This represents the finest and most meticulously detailed hand rendering of the State of Texas ever produced.

The Eagle and Quetzalcoatl (Kets-oll-coot-ul) are original drawings by Philip Trussell, noted Austin artist. The eagle was particularly difficult to capture and Trussell spent many hours at the Texas Memorial Museum counting eagle feathers.

Sharon Roos, calligrapher of all three maps, drew the yellow rose north arrow, with cardinal and sub-cardinal points represented by the flower’s petals. She also calligraphed the rose and star adornments around the illustration’s perimeter.

Airbrush artist, Ed Aiken, contributed his expertise in creating the Gulf of Mexico from its interface with the Texas coast out into the depths.

This item is very detailed and lovely to look at.

I am including a photo of the frame close-up. The frame has a bit of an Italian flavor and is cherry wood in color. The name of the frame is San Remo.

Here is an antique copper wash or laundry tub that I inherited from my great grandmother. Back in the old days, this item was used to BOIL the laundry (to get the clothes clean).

People nowadays usually use these antique boilers to hold bulky items, for example, firewood by your fireplace, or magazines by your sofa. I have seen these used as a VERY COOL cooler for ice and beverages at get-togethers, parties, or barbeques!

This large tub measures about 26-1/2 inches from handle to handle. It is about 12-1/2 inches wide, and about 18 inches high, with the lid on. Speaking of the lid, it does not fit correctly anymore. The upper rim of the boiler has been deformed by beating the clothing to get them clean. You could probably place the rim of the boiler on a wooden block, and carefully hammer, with a soft craft hammer, the rim back to its original round shape. Then the lid will fit correctly. Oh, the LAST photo shows the BACK side of the boiler.

You could even SHINE the boiler if you wanted! That is a lot of copper to shine up! Oh, the lid is NOT copper, I think it is steel. If you think you have a use for this in your home, come on by and take a look at it.
